The Mark degree was often considered as the next step after the craft and our ritual is an extension of the Fellowcraft story.
Being a companion order, our costs are much less than membership of a craft lodge. The officers are similar to the craft and as it is less formal, happy and proud of being known as the “friendly degree”.
Lewis Mark (not a typing error) is over 130 years old and has always met in the same temple. It has an active membership from many backgrounds and ages. We meet on the fourth Tuesdays of January, March and May, holding our installation meeting in November. In January we hold a white table Burns Night and have a few other social events each year. If you are interested in joining, we usually invite candidates to our social events so they can meet the members informally.
The administration of the Mark is similar to the craft. There is a Mark Grand Lodge, with its own building, Mark Masons Hall, at St James, London. The Mark Grand Secretary also administers most of the other Companion Orders. In Sussex we have a separate Mark Provincial Grand Lodge with its own Provincial Grand Master and officers. Attached to the Mark is a separate Order called the Royal Ark Mariners, with its own Lodges which are attached to a Mark Lodge. Lewis Mark Lodge is linked to the separate Lewis RAM Lodge.
